New York - Day 2 - Central Park, 5th Avenue and Times Square

We got up quite late on our first day - around 7:30am although I think i'd been awake since around 6!
We got some breakfast and made our plans for the day before heading out around 10am.

We made our way up 5th Avenue, stopping at a few shops along the way, including Ricky's Halloween shop, a souvenir shop or two, and the Lindt shop while remembering a few we wanted to pay a visit to on our way back from Central Park rather than carrying shopping around all day.

Once we got to Central Park we were greeted by this little guy below, and a lot of his friends.

I love squirrels but we don't really see them where I live, the only place i've seen them is in Saltwell Park in Gateshead. The closest things we get where I live are hedgehogs, pheasants and foxes that wander into our street at night from Fulwell Quarry.

We spent a couple of hours wandering around the park, its huge! Its a very nice and beautiful park but it could definitely do with more maps and signposts or free wifi hot spots as the only map we saw told you to download the map app! And as a international visitor we don't have data in America (unless we want to pay £6 per MB).

This is the view from Belvedere Castle, one of the busier parts of the park from what we saw.

Autumn was just starting in the park, some trees had already started changing the colours of their leaves but for the most part, the park was still green. It's a little bit disappointing as its the main thing my Mam was looking forward to seeing on this trip.

After a couple of hours we headed back down 5th Avenue, getting lost in the park a couple of times as we left. We passed street vendor as we exited the park who had Minute Maid Frozen Lemonade on his board - my absolute favourite thing about America - but, sadly, he didn't have any in stock and I didn't find another vendor selling it throughout the entire trip. I know that the weather was getting cold but, I love it so much.

On our way back down 5th Avenue we popped into Urban Outfitters where I had to stop myself from buying a Hey Arnold tshirt. I originally only went in to look at the FujiInstax cameras but in the end I decided not to get one. It's something i'd like to have but probably would never use.

We crossed the street to visit the Christmas In New York shop and had a good look around, we decided to come back and buy our decorations later in the trip as we were sure there would be plenty more Christmas shops in New York as it was late October, but there wasn't! We passed one on the way up to Macy's but they were still stocking the shelves and it wasn't officially opened yet.

After visiting the Christmas shop we headed back to the hotel to rest our feet before heading back out for dinner and to visit Times Square in the evening.

On our way to Times Square we paid our first visit to Macy's, we ended up wandering around in there for over an hour so my Mam could look at the bags, she'd planned on getting a new bag on our trip but in the end she didn't as the prices meant she might as well just buy one when we get back home.

We didn't do a lot on our first trip to Times Square as we knew we'd be visiting pretty much every night as it was literally two or three streets away from our hotel so we just paid a quick visit to M&Ms World (I was let down by this, I think the one in London is better!), The Disney Store (again, I was let down, I went in specifically for Vinylmation but they didn't have any!, they didn't have any small Duffy tsum tsums either - although they did have medium - but I found that they were adding new stock every day, but the problem is it was selling out just as quick so you really had to be lucky with when you visited). We also visited Toys R Us, who had a big Wonka Candy section, it was mainly Pick & Mix laffy taffy but they did have huge boxes of Nerds, I got a big one, but not the biggest as it really was too heavy for my case considering its just sweets!

By now our feet were hurting again so we headed back to the hotel after getting something to eat. We ended up having another relatively early night ready for our next day.
