King Con 2016

Image
Where to start! This was our first time attending King Con, in fact, we'd never even heard of it before they made the move to the Stadium of Light - a huge venue with ample space for con-goers, dealers, artists and special guests with plenty of free parking available!. We'd bought early bird tickets which allowed us to enter from 9am - we decided to head in for 10am as our friends had bought standard tickets so wouldn't be arriving until 11. We spent the majority of our time wandering the main dealers hall, before heading upstairs to look around the artists floor before checking out the 3D printers and picking up some bubble tea. We did wander up to the next floor after that, but we think we'd left it too late in the day as we couldn't find what we were looking for and some dealers had already started packing their stalls away by 4:30. There was a small problem at around 11am when the fire alarms went off - just when it had started to rain! But it

DIY Candy - Popin' Cookin' Ramen

This is the last DIY Candy video i'll be posting for a while as next week our videos from our Japan trip start going up every Thursday at 12pm UK time. Health Update

Todays post should have been a Dr Strange review, but instead i'm going to be updating you on my current situation! Whilst i'm not as ill as I was when I had to stop writing the Japan Trip posts, i'm not quite myself right now. I feel fine, other than the occasional light headache, but my eyes aren't working properly. When I first got ill they gave me steroids and my double vision went away, but just before I was due back to go to work on Monday, my eyes started to get bad again. I'm seeing double on and off, but only specific objects rather than everything like before - including characters on tv shows but nothing else on the screen or the screen itself, and mostly its only happening to things in the distance rather than things that are near me (I watched cars drive away and once they hit a certain point in the road, they went double). It's a pretty confusing, somewhat scary situation, in short, I might have MS. I'm just devastated that th

Booking A Trip To Japan - Guide & Tips

Image
I've been asked by a few people now for advise on booking a trip to Japan - I know people who've been quoted thousands for a two week trip! So I thought i'd best post a little guide here incase it helps anyone with their future bookings and trip planning! Flights Now, your flights can be the most expensive part of your trip, and they tend to be the same price all year round unless airlines put a sale on. We flew with Air France/KLM both times with one connection in Paris/Amsterdam each way but there may be direct flights available from your airport with other airlines. It does pay to shop around though as these can be pretty expensive! Hotels Sakura Hotel Ikebukuro We used this hotel as our main base for both trips, it's a 5 minute walk from the second busiest train station in the world - it's huge, you could probably spend a day here wandering the shops and trying out the cakes and treats on offer. We always book the Superior room as Japanese

Disney's Ambassador Hotel Review

Image
Since this is the only new hotel we stayed at this year, i've decided just to write a review for this one. The Sakura Hotel and Hotel Sunny were just the same as they were last year. We stayed at the Disney Ambassador Hotel at Tokyo Disney Resort for three nights, and we'd booked to stay in one of the Donald Duck rooms. I'll start off by showing you a video tour of our room below. The room was absolutely lovely, the entire hotel was! We didn't try any of the restaurants so I can't comment on those but the gift shop was the same standard as any other Disney Hotel and the mini supermarket I would say was even better. The mini supermarket stocked everything from Disney themed deodorants to Disney bottles of water, Disney snacks, Disney plasters, if it's Disney, they have it! I think they also had a small range of mini bento meals and other eat on the go foods. The Hotel itself was beautifully themed, right down to the smallest details, even the v

Japan - Day 16 - Goodbye Japan

Image
We were up really early this morning, in fact, I hardly slept, but we had to catch our Keisei Skyliner to the Airport early this morning. So we jumped up, had a quick packet of crisps for breakfast and prayed that they'd have something good in the airport and headed next door to Nippori Station to catch our train. We had perfect seats, we were the two closest seats to the luggage racks! We got there a few hours early, dropped off our bags, posted our pocket wifi back in the airport mail box and headed to McDonald's for some breakfast, and the airport one has suddenly stopped selling nuggets for breakfast! They had a sort of spicy chicken muffin thing though, which was fine. We had a little look through the shops before heading through security, which didn't take anywhere near as long as last year! I was a bit worried going through, as when we arrived neither of us got our tear off slips back, but I can only guess its because we filled them out on the way the

Japan - Day 15 - Sunshine City Aquarium

Image
We had an early start this morning, as sadly, we had to check out of our hotel this morning. We had pretty much finished packing the night before and just had a few things left to squeeze in our cases this morning. We checked out right on check out time and forced our cases into the luggage storage at the reception side. The storage was pretty much empty on the room side but as there is a cafe on that floor that is open to everyone I'd rather have left our cases in the manned guest-only reception building! We headed for lunch at Burger King and had around a 10min wait before they were due to start serving non-breakfast items so we got a seat nice and early to plan our day in before we ate. Today was a public holiday - respect for the elders day so opening times for places were slightly different and we were worried that the Aquarium would be closed, but thankfully it wasn't. After lunch we headed to the Taito Arcade to try out that candy prize again, we gathered qu

Japan - Day 14 - Tokyo Character Street

Image
We had a bit of a late start this morning, it was another rainy day in Tokyo so we headed out for lunch around 11 and then stopped by the Taito Arcade. This time we tried our hand at winning one of the candy dropper prizes - here they stack them up huge, so if you win, you win a lot! We didn't win. We then took the train over to Tokyo Station and had a wander around Character Street, we were pretty sad to see that the Tamagotchi Store has closed down as thats pretty much the main reason we visited the place last year! We picked up some pretty nice souvenirs though, including a Station Master Snoopy to go with our Station Master Pikachu and Mametchi from last year. We didn't stay here too long as it was really crowded, probably due to the rain, and so we headed back to the hotel, dropped off our bags and headed out to Sunshine City. We were just wandering around, browsing, the standard mall trip thing really, before we passed Cold Stone Creamery, now, last

Japan - Day 13 - Tokyo Skytree & Akihabara

Image
This is probably going to be a pretty short post for today because we didn't really do a lot! We started the day quite late and slow as we were pretty tired from our day in Disney yesterday! We headed out for lunch around 11 so it was a lot busier than usual! Once we were fed we headed over to catch the train to the Tokyo Skytree, and heres a tip for you if you plan on visiting! Take your passport! There is a special, really really short queue for non-Japanese guests that gets you priority entry into the first lift and gets you your tickets a lot quicker (you can't buy these in advance unless you have a Japanese bank card). And i'm not joking here, the standard queue was worse than at the Empire State Building. We got tickets for the top floor so we spent a couple of hours here I think, wandering both floors, having a look through the glass floor, and we even had a lovely little icecream while we were there! Personally, I didn't think much of the i

Japan: Day 12 - Tokyo Disneyland Day Trip

Image
We got up around 5-5:30am to make sure we caught an early train over to Disneyland as we still needed to buy tickets once we got there. We wore another pair of matching Tokyo Disney Resort tshirts today! We ended up on the wrong train, well, sort of. Because the platforms were so crowded we just got on the train anyway even though it was going to terminate a couple of stops before Shin Kiba, it just meant we had to get off and wait a couple of minutes for the next one, but because we were so far down the line, the platform was practically empty so it didn't turn out too bad! Once we got there we asked which queue was to buy tickets, and got sent to the wrong place! So by the time we got into a ticket queue, the park was already open! It kept raining on and off too, despite not being forecast at all! We took a last look at some of the Halloween decorations before heading in and picking up Fast Passes for Monsters Inc Ride & Go, Seek! which had been cl

Japan - Day 11 - Ueno Zoo

Image
We had another late start today, well, I keep saying late, I mean we set our alarms for 8am! We got sorted and headed out for lunch around 10:30 then went straight to catch the train to Ueno! We were due to arrive with plenty of time to see the zoo, but as we approached the park we noticed a street performer, and he was one of those graffiti artists! I'd looked out for them in New York last year but never managed to find one so I knew we had to stick around this time. He didn't start for around 15min or so, he waited for a crowd then did a full set of art - four paintings I think, including an illusion at the end, it was amazing! Once he was done we asked about purchasing a couple of them, he didn't have a price up, only a sign to donate money if you took a photograph or video, so we were pretty pleased when he agreed to sell us a couple! We then had to rush off and find change so we could store them in the coin lockers across the street while we were at the zoo
