KamaCarrze Beads

I recently interviewed Ryan Carr of KamaCarrze beads about his relatively new Hama Bead business, here is what he had to say

What is KamaCarrze beads all about?

Kamacarrze Beads is all about making a large variety of Hama bead anime, TV and video game designs that I find interesting/cool and that I think other people will like too.

What gave you the idea and inspiration to set up KamaCarrze beads?

I didn't really have any plan at first for setting up Kamacarrze Beads, I just woke up one Sunday morning and thought "I feel like trying out Hama beads". At the time I had no idea it was possible to create as many awesome anime style things as I have but I'm happy I had that initial thought to try it as it has turned out quite well for me so far.

What is your favourite piece you've made?

It's hard to choose one design that I like the most but I have a couple that I've made in the past that I wanted to keep for myself. One of which is the giant Calcifer design from Howl's Moving Castle. It had luminous orange beads that made it look like flickering fire when it was held up to the light.

Do you plan on branching out past Anime and gaming and working on cartoon pieces too?

I'm happy to make any kind of design, whether it's anime or cartoon so I would definitely make some cartoon designs too. I have made a couple of designs in the past from things like Adventure Time and My Little Pony so I guess I already do make some cartoon designs.

How long on average does it take you to make one of your designs?

It's hard to give an average length of time for a design since it just depends on the size and complexity of it plus the amount of time greatly varies depending on if I'm making something using normal sized beads of mini beads. The normal beads are good for making small and normal sized designs quickly and the mini ones are better for more detailed looking designs but take a lot longer to make since I have to use tweezers to pick them up. Designs can take anywhere from 5 minutes up to an hour or more though depending on what I'm making.

Do you have any tips for someone thinking about starting out with hama beads?

For anyone who is thinking of trying out Hama beads, I say just go for it. Buy a starter kit at first so you get some boards and a mix of coloured beads and see how it goes. If you enjoy it and want to make more complex designs, buy individual colour bead bags so you don't have to spend ages hunting for the right colours amongst a mix of multi-coloured beads.
