Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Review

Image
Last night my fiancĂ© and I headed out to see Guardian's of the Galaxy Vol. 2, here is his review Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 So now we all know what to expect from GotG, can the second movie live up to the hype? I'm not so sure. It's a good movie but not in the same vein as the first, this feels more like a "road trip" movie where everybody is out trying to find out "who they are" …one thing that struck me was that for a vast majority of the movie we had no obvious primary antagonist, any battle scenes were comical and I couldn't really see where the movie was going… then there was the twist… suddenly we go from a series of family reunions to a final battle against a seemingly insurmountable enemy, culminating in a movie-saving redemption for a much-misunderstood character. Baby Groot was awesome and provided the right counter-emotions at the right times, from him dancing, messing everything up, being confused and generally

Gateshead Comic-Con

Image
On April 2nd we headed over to Gateshead Comic Con, we only stayed for around an hour and a half but it was a pretty fun convention, they really need a bigger location though, it was so crowded!

Berlin - Day Four

Image
We were up at 8am and out to breakfast at 9:30. We took a train at 10 and headed over to Victory Column, there are so many stairs in there! We spent a little while at the top (there was a school trip and a terrified little boy crying and clinging onto the building) and took a few timelapse videos before climbing all the way back down those terrifying, crowded stairs and heading over to Tiergarten. We wandered around Tiergarten for a while before heading for lunch and quickly stopping off at the hotel afterwards. We then headed over to the Berlin Wall memorial, spending around an hour and a half there before heading off to do some shopping. We only really bought anything in Tiger, i'd planned on going to Vans but decided to keep our last 100€ and put it towards our Rome trip. We picked up some pretzels at Ditsch on the way back to the hotel and had a rest for a little while before heading out for dinner. We then had our baths, finished off packing and th

Berlin - Day Three

Image
We got up at 7:30am and headed to breakfast at 9am again, leaving our bags behind as it's only a 5min walk so we'd rather just come back for them after breakfast. It gave us a chance to see what the weather was like so we could get changed if we needed to. (It was really sunny pretty much every day, one day was cold but the rest were hot!) After breakfast we picked up our bags and headed to get the train to the Sea Life Centre. There was a short queue to get in but around 15-20min later we'd bought our tickets and were inside! I think it took around an hour to get through everything, and then we headed over to the AquaDom after, we made it straight into the lift so must have had pretty good timing! The AquaDom is amazing, you'll be able to see my full video of it over at www.youtube.com/elstoleno from 12PM on April 27th. It was raining when we got out of the AquaDom so we looked around for somewhere for lunch and stayed there until

Berlin - Day Two

Image
We set our alarm for 7am, but lazily didn't get up until around 8am and we were soon out and at McDonald's for breakfast at 9am. The breakfast here is actually decent, I had the fresh chicken every morning as I need something high in fat and protein for breakfast due to my medication, It was so good, i'm devastated you can't get it here - or even Rome, i'm not entirely sure what i'm going to do for breakfast there yet. After breakfast we took the short walk to the zoo and spent most of our day there. We were planning on going to the park after - it looks so beautiful, but the weather cooled down a bit so we walked back to the hotel to quickly charge up our phones before heading back out.  We headed out to find J-Store which is a cool little Japanese snack and anime/kawaii toy/figure/collectable and manga store. We stopped into an Edeka on the way back to the hotel, buying drinks for a lot cheaper than Spar were selling them for, a

Berlin - Day One

Image
Day One! Our flight was in the early afternoon so we had a pretty relaxed morning before getting the Metro at around 10:30, we got to the airport around 11:30 and quickly dropped off our cases and headed through security. I expected it to be really busy but it turns out our airport really doesn't have many flights. I'd wanted to take a timelapse of a plane taking off, and the next one on the board wasn't for 45min! We had lunch at Burger King before wandering round the shops while we waited to be able to take my timelapse video. You can see it at www.instagram.com/elstoleno. And I think this is probably the first time we didn't even visit the Namco arcade! Not long after we boarded our plane and were soon off on our way to Berlin! I bought these cookies but they weren't very nice, or even intact, just crumbled pieces. We stayed at the Wyndham Berlin Excelsior hotel, our room was pretty big and we actually got a

Ghost In The Shell Review

Image
Scarlett Johansson stars as Major Mira Killian, a cyborg with a human brain (as opposed to AI) created by Hanka Robotics and working for Section 9, the counter-terrorism section of the Japanese government, with Batou and Togusa. Interesting to see Johansson starring as another enhanced, all-action character (as previously as the Black Widow and Lucy, to name a few) and it is a far cry from her breakthrough in Ghost World with Thora Birch and Steve Buscemi. Also of note in the cast is Takeshi Kitano as Chief Daisuke Aramaki, the man in charge of Section 9. There has been a lot of controversial talk about this movie and "whitewashing" which I think is worth mentioning but not really an issue in my eyes, I see what people are talking about but it's apparent that the character portrayed by Johansson is an Asian character in a cyborg body which isn't representative of her previous appearance. If anything, Johansson's casting helps hig
