New York - Day 1 & Getting There

We had a somewhat early start, making it to the airport for 7am - our taxi actually got us there for 6:30 so we waited around a little while before going to drop off our bags and heading up through security.

There wasn't much of a queue for security and once we got through we visited a couple of shops and got something to eat at Burger King before our gate opened around 8:30.

Not long later we arrived in London and had to change terminal. I have to say London Heathrow is the worst airport i've ever connected at, having to go through security again is a pain that drained us of time and, obviously, meant we had to throw away any drinks we'd taken onto our original flight.

The selection of food places in the terminal were very low, but there were plenty of places to buy clothes/perfume. We had just about enough time to grab a new drink from a vending machine before our gate opened.

Onto our American Airlines flight, it boarded quickly and the plane offered Wifi ($19 for the duration, it was very slow), the tv screens were fixed into the seat in front so if they reclined your view would be ruined. They did offer USB and international plug points in the seats though which is definitely a plus.

One we got to JFK we headed to the ground transport desk, where we had to wait about an hour for our Super Shuttle car to arrive. Then because of how heavy the traffic is, it took around another two hours to get us to the hotel.

Heres the view from our room, it was on the top floor, but we were in a pretty small building, it only has 12 floors.

As we got to the hotel so late we headed straight out to get something to eat and made a quick stop at 7 Eleven to pick up some drinks and food for breakfast before having an early night ready for our first full day in New York City.
