Day 0 & 1 - Getting there

Day 0 - Getting There

I'm finally back home, so here is the first instalment of my trip diary/trip report.

The trip got off to a pretty bad start, once we landed in Amsterdam we found out our flight was delayed two-three hours!

It could have been worse though, they kicked 140 people off that flight and moved them to a flight the day after, with an extra connection thrown in in Osaka!

One we finally board we're told about another delay! We were delayed 30min for refuelling, then not long after this we discovered that my fiancé's in flight entertainment wasn't working! They managed to put a selection of films on for him but he didn't get to pick which ones and he couldn't pause the screen or anything. In the end they gave him a voucher for money off his next KLM flight, which is fine since we'll probably have a flight or two with KLM next year.

Then once we started descent.. yet another delay!

Just 15min this time as we had nowhere to land, probably due to the delays.

Customs & immigration were quick enough to get through, I expected it to take as long as Florida or California but it was about as quick as landing in Europe! It'll take more if you have plants etc with you though as there are other inspections you need to go through if you have anything like that.

Day 1 - First 'day'

After checking into the hotel and panicking about how thrown off my timetable is now because of the delays (that only got worse, we didn't get everything done that we wanted to) we headed out to Sunshine City to get something to eat and have a look around the shops.

Our first visits were to the Pokémon Center as I needed to pick something up for a friend, but sadly they didn't have what he wanted, and neither did the store in Tokyo Station's Character Street. Then of course, we visited the Disney Store, where I picked up a few tsum tsums for myself and my friend Chelsey, she was picking me up the one I wanted from the new Aladdin set while I was away too!

Then on the way back to the hotel we made our first of many trips to a Konbini!

There were two 7 elevens and a Family Mart on our street so it was always easy enough to pick up some snacks, drinks and icy treats for in our room, definitely worth visiting a Konbini and stocking up your in room fridge when visiting Japan, especially in the summer - our first few days had a real feel of 47ºC! It wouldn't have been so bad but it was ridiculously humid in Tokyo. Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima were a lot less humid and a little cooler though.

Keep checking back for more updates! I'm aiming to post about my Japan trip daily and then going back to posting once every couple of days after that, I also have a few things i'm thinking of doing a give away competition for once i've unpacked and sorted everything out properly.
