New York Avalon Hotel Review

During our trip to New York City we stayed at the Avalon Hotel, it's a relatively small hotel, but one of the nicest i've stayed in. They offer complimentary tea, coffee and hot chocolate on the ground floor and also have a PC and iMac available in the same room - you can also use these to print out your boarding passes, the printer is located behind the check in desk so just let them know before you print them out.

When we checked in we were given leaflets, discount vouchers (Including Macy's and M&Ms World) and a gift card for Century 21 of unknown value (we had it checked in the store - it had $5 on it but we were told by Christian who checked us in that it could have anywhere between $5-1000 on it, it's a bit like a lottery). One of our leaflets was for the Empire State Building, if we bought our tickets using that voucher we'd be upgraded to queue jumping tickets, but we already had our tickets so didn't use the voucher.

The hotel is just around the corner from the Empire State Building and Macy's, and only a short walk away from Times Square. The closest subway station is 33 Street Station. There is a 7 Eleven and a CVS within a few minutes walk away so you can pick up some drinks and snacks for in your hotel room.

The rooms are equipped with a TV, mini bar, in-room chiller fridge,  in-room safe and hairdryer. The rooms have wifi but the cable tv and wifi often had problems - on the 12th floor (top) at least as they would both often cut out and they always went off together, it was never one or the other so I would assume it was some sort of power issue.

Overall this hotel was great and I would definitely recommend it to others if you're planning a trip to the Manhattan area of New York. The staff were all very helpful and even wrote us down some route instructions to get us to Bowling Green on the subway for our trip to the Statue of Liberty. The only downside to this hotel is the price of breakfast ($15 each per day) and that the elevators were slow - everyone you bumped into in the elevators would complain about the speed.

Here is a video tour of our room.
