Hotel Sunny at JR Nippori Station Hotel Review

For our final night in Tokyo we moved to the Hotel Sunny which is pretty much next door to the JR Nippori Station. We decided to change hotel after our original flight was cancelled as it meant that the Narita Express wouldn't get us to the airport early enough to catch our flight anymore and it was easier to change hotel than try to get three cases, a backpack, camera bag and a couple of Mt Fuji sticks on the Yamanote line early in the morning.

This hotel is in an ideal location if you're planning on using the Keisei Skyliner to get to/from the airport, we didn't really get to see much of the area as we arrived when it was dark and only stopped off at the McDonald's opposite to grab a Shaka Shaka Chicken before getting an early night for our 4:30am wakeup the next morning.

If i'm honest, this was one of the nicest hotels we stayed in, if any, the only room that beat it would have been the superior room at the Granvia Hiroshima, but this hotel room was standard! The bath was pretty much the same as the Granvia, it had that mix of Japanese and Western, and the toilet seat was heated. Although i'm not sure thats necessary in August, I couldn't figure out how to turn it off, if you could, anyway.

The staff were lovely, and even though they couldn't really figure out what my fiancé was asking for (a postbox as we needed to post back our wifi), they still tried to help him, and finally figured out what he meant when he went back down with the parcel to show them. Sadly though, they'd never seen any post boxes in the area and the post office doesn't open until 8:30am!, there are post boxes before security in Narita though if you ever find yourself in the same situation.

Take the lift as the escalator will only take you to a restaurant and theres no way to get back down so you have to go through it and ask them to let you out to the lift. Felt a little bit stupid, but glad we didn't have our luggage with us when we checked in!

The lift down from your hotel room will make you stop at the third floor if you try to leave as you've got to drop your key off on the way out - I assume its so you can't get a copy of the key made as they use actual keys rather than room key cards.

The hotel also offers free water in the in room-fridges, and they had the comfiest bed out of all the hotels we stayed at in Japan.
