Day 14 - Return Home

Early start with a 5am wake up alarm, we were going to take the 7:15am Keisei Skyliner from JR Nippori station to Terminal 1 at Narita Airport.

We had a quick breakfast and then slowly got ready and finished packing our last pieces, leaving behind our left over shampoo, conditioner and other unnecessary toiletries and snacks.

Once we got to the airport we had to go straight off to find the postbox to send our pocket wifi back to the company we rented it from, once we did that we went over to bag drop off.

We checked our Fuji Sticks in and told them they were fragile, they made us sign an agreement that its not their responsibility if anything happens to them (which is understandable really). I think they marked them as fragile as they were one of the first items of luggage that came off our connecting flight, so I think they put them in the hold last on both flights. Other than the bag being ripped open when they arrived at Newcastle, the sticks and our big clear umbrella were both in perfect condition.

We grabbed a quick breakfast from McDonalds before visiting a few of the souvenir shops and picking up some omiyage. Theres also a currency exchange place in Terminal 1, we used it to change all of our yen notes directly into euros for when we go to Barcelona later in September, but we didn't change our coins - we really should have because nowhere back here will exchange them and we've got over £46 worth left! On the plus side one of my friends is interested in buying them off me for around £35-40 which is alot better than nothing.

The exchange shop had these free little origami cranes to take so we got one each, the blue one is mine.

Our flight was pretty uncomfortable, even if you ignore the three crying babies, there was also the fact the people in front of us reclined their chairs - for the entire flight, and tried repeatedly to recline them further with meant our tvs were constantly shaking. We already had so little room that my fiancé couldn't stand up to find his wallet, and I had to force and pull my bag up from under the chair in front. It knocked the chair when I did that and the guy seemed pretty irritated as he started furiously pushing back in his chair.

You really shouldn't be able to recline your seats on a long haul flight unless the seats are designed like the ones in first class - they've basically got a bit behind the chair that the chair reclines into, so it doesn't take away any more space from the people behind or reduce their view of their tv system.

As for crying babies, a separate section for families with small children should be introduced at the end of a plane, give them more space, with less seats - it'll help the kids as they won't have to deal with the hundreds of other people sat in economy, and it'll stop the other passengers being awoken or kept awake by the crying of small children. It would also be great if there could be something introduced - free lollies for example - to small children before take off and landing, as the screaming and crying got worse around then, presumably because their ears popped and they were in pain.
