How To Use Tenso

Last year my fiancé ordered our Tokyo Disneyland tickets from the official website, but as they don't ship to the UK we had to order through a website called Tenso. My fiancé has written up a guide to help you use Tenso for any of your Japan shopping needs!

Tenso - A guide

So, say you want to order some stuff from Japan, only to find that you can’t get the items delivered to your country as they only deliver within Japan! This is quite a common occurrence, especially if you are ordering things like tickets to Tokyo Disneyland. Thankfully, that’s where Tenso come in!

A brief overview of the services

The way Tenso works is they give you a Japanese address to send your items to, then when they receive them, you confirm the items in your Tenso account, pay the shipping from Tenso to your country and then they send your item(s) to you. They even offer a package consolidation service so you can get multiple packages delivered to Tenso and then they package them all together and send them as one big package. This service costs 300 JPY per each additional item and a 200 JPY application fee, so if you consolidate 5 items into one parcel the fee will be 1400 JPY which is (at time of writing) just under £10. Sending 5 50kg packages to the UK via EMS would cost 2250 JPY per parcel, a total of 11250 JPY. Sending one 250kg parcel to the UK via EMS costs 2550JPY + the 1400 JPY fee which is 3950JPY, which is a saving of 7300 JPY, which is (currently) just under £50.
One thing to be aware of using Tenso is that they open and weigh your original parcel, this is to make sure you’re not sending prohibited goods, there is an extensive list of prohibited goods on the Tenso website.
There are also options for extra packaging on your items, when you come to the confirmation screen you get to see what options are available for your parcel so if you’re sending bottles (for instance) they can be securely wrapped with styrofoam.

Using Tenso

First thing to do on the Tenso website is to register, going through the registration flow. You’ll need to provide and verify an email address before you get through the flow. Once you have been registered, you will see your Tenso shipping address and phone number. When you’re on Japanese websites, these are what you’ll need to put as your address and phone number in order to receive the items into your Tenso account. Not putting the address in correctly means that they will not be able to assign the package to your account and thus you will not receive your items.
Tenso have a great guide to filling in the address field on Japanese websites here https://www.tenso.com/en/guide/buy/address.html which has examples for popular websites.

Once you have filled in and purchased your items on the website, you then have to wait for Tenso to receive the items. Once they have them, they’ll email you on the address you joined with and you can either wait until if have more items that you’re waiting to ship, or you can go into the Tenso system, make the payment and wait to receive your items. If your chosen shipping method supports tracking, you can check the tracking status from within your tenso account.

My experience

I used Tenso to get two tickets to Tokyo Disneyland delivered to my house because the Tokyo Disneyland website only provided domestic shipping. I found the site to be easy to use and understand and the fee for the shipping was 1650 JPY (just over £10), which included 1500 JPY shipping fee, 100 JPY handling fee and 50 JPY insurance. The package came to my house relatively quickly, around a week if I remember correctly.
