Sunnycon 4 - Day One

We arrived at the venue just before 10am - the doors wouldn't open for non-VIP tickets until 10, but when we arrived we found that there was still a long queue of VIP ticket holders who hadn't got in yet (I do feel bad for them having paid extra to get an extra hour of time in the convention and not getting it). It then took an hour and a half for us to get in through the general queue, the official statement is that they only had two ticket scanners, a similar problem to what they had last year, so fingers crossed they hire more next year as the venue is bigger meaning the capacity and amount of tickets sold could grow.

This was the original timetable, but queue to Sean being ill and Todd missing his flight, all talks were cancelled except Uncle Kage's Story Hour.

This was the revised timetable after Sean's cancellation.

The timetable messed up a few times, as by 10am they were already running half an hour behind, then around 1:30pm one member of staff shouted the skit contest was about to start, so crowds flocked into the ball room - the Taiko workshop was on, then after that should have been the skit competition, but Akemi Solloway was there after (wrong room) she was then cut short and MasakoX's Desu's Den took over, but that was also cut short, with the skit competition starting at 3pm.

This is where we were after about an hour, we started roughly where that sign is on the left.

While we were in the queue it was announced - via Facebook - that Todd wasn't coming due to a fee he couldn't pay when he got to the airport. Before this his flight had been delayed, twice. But Todd himself has stated on Twitter that he missed his flight due to traffic rather than a delay, which could mean that the fee he incurred at the airport was in the hundreds if not thousands for an entirely new ticket.

Once we got in we wandered round a couple of stalls, then headed out to find my friends who had got in just before 10 (VIP tickets), we got some food (snowcones!) and wandered the stalls again before heading to the arcade just passed the Seaburn Centre. Not long after that my friends left as one of them wasn't feeling well, so we headed out to get some food then headed over to the ballroom - we watched the Taiko drumming work shop, Akemi Solloway's talk (we've seen this a couple of times before), MasakoX's Desu's Den, then the skit competition, I had originally planned on watching the Larp demo after but after two hours of sitting we decided to head back out into the sun. We bought a couple of figures, then bumped into Claptrap (Michael Barker) and wandered around with him for a bit, we went to check on his costume as he was storing it outside of the Cloakroom, I took a few photographs of him in his cosplay, then we wandered the stalls again, stopping to visit Animez.

As the marquees weren't waterproof and we were forecast a lot of rain overnight, we offered to let Animez store his stock at our house as it is just up the road from the venue.

We then headed to Morrisons, and the arcade before heading home and waiting for Wing to arrive. Once he'd been we headed into town to get some food then back home to sort some stuff out for Sunday's early start.
