Money Saving Tips

Ah, January, the time of year we're all aiming to lose weight and save money.

Here are a few of my Money Saving Tips to help you on your money saving journey.

TopCashBack

TopCashBack is a great website, you just shop as usual but before you go on your chosen website, click through the link in the TopCashBack website and you'll get a little bit of cash back into your TCP account if you place an eligible order. I started using the website back when I was a student, but i've managed to gain £767 in cashback throughout the years.

Savings Tins

There are a ton of different savings guides around to help you fill your savings tins.
The most popular one seems to be to save £1 for every week of the year (e.g week 1 - £1, week 2 - £2) but a lot of people have suggested doing this backwards and starting at £52 for week one as you don't want your highest payments to be during the Christmas season!

Personally, I just empty any change I have into my savings tins at the end of each day. Keeping £1 coins aside to use for my drinks at work.

eBay/Gumtree/Depop

Chances are, you're a bit of a hoarder like everyone else! So why not go around your house and pick out any item you can bare to part with and list it online to earn a little bit of money back. It'll soon add up to a holiday or new piece of furniture!
Clothing and children's video games & toys sell well on eBay.

MySupermarket

This website is great if you're trying to cut down on your food shopping bill, you can just search for the items you need and see if any other supermarket in your area has it cheaper or on a special/multibuy offer. For example, Tesco and Asda both have Heinz soup on for 50p a tin at the moment but they're 95p at Morrisons.

Store Point Cards - Tesco/Nectar etc

Personally, I don't use Nectar but our Tesco card has earned us quite a few £GBP worth of vouchers over the years. We don't do our shopping at Tesco, we really only pop in while we're in Newcastle for drinks/snacks, but the points soon add up.

Plan Meals Ahead

If you plan out your meals you'll know exactly what food shopping you need so not only will you reduce the amount you spend on items you don't need, but you'll also be able to use MySuperMarket to gauge which supermarket will give you the best deal for the shopping you need - it doesn't really work out that well if you need to go to three supermarkets, work out which one is cheaper for most of your items and then head there!

Christmas Cards/Wrapping

With wrapping paper being reduced this month, right down to 20p in some stores, you may as well stock up now rather than pay a few £GBP a roll at the end of the year.

Empire Cinema Half Price Tuesdays

Empire Cinema do half price tickets on a Tuesday, that way you can still enjoy an evening out to see a new movie, but you don't feel quite as guilty when your ticket is only £4 rather than £8! You can even put the money you've saved into your savings tin.

Money Saving Expert

The Martin Lewis website is full of information and guides on how to save money, which bank and credit accounts have the best deals and theres even a freebie board on there. It's definitely worth a look around!

Travel Money

This is another Martin Lewis one, but if you use this website you'll be able to compare which travel bureau has the best deal on the currency you need for your next holiday.
