Foo Fighters At The Stadium Of Light

Ok, i'm going to start from the very beginning of the day.

A bank holiday off work is rare for me so I wanted to make the most of it. My fiancé and I headed into town in the morning, I was looking to pick up a few things for our holiday but I couldn't find anything. I need to print a copy of my check list before I go shopping next time. We got some food before heading back to the house to wait for Jess.

After Jess arrived we headed straight out, and after missing a Metro by seconds we decided just to walk from Seaburn to the Stadium of Light. It took a while but we still arrived there by around 2:30, there wasn't much of a queue by then to be honest, and once we got into the Stadium at 4pm, we were only around 6 rows from the front, and in an ideal location stage position wise. On the walk there we saw a couple of these lost cat posters, but we're not sure if they're actually serious or not, but its a nice drawing of a cat either way.

Here is a photo of us waiting in the courtyard. We had an hour and a half wait for the doors open. There were Dominos and Krispy Kreme sellers wandering up and down the queue, it was a pretty different experience from the queue we had for Red Hot Chilli Peppers, but i'm glad I had standing this time, there were problems with the ticket turnstiles at RHCP because all the tickets were printed with the barcodes in the wrong place! For standing, there were no turnstiles, they just opened the doors and in everyone ran!

This is the view we had, for two hours while we waited for The Strypes to start at 6pm!

And this was the crowd behind us before The Strypes has been on.

The Strypes and Kaiser Chiefs were good, I loved Ricky Wilson running up and down the stage to get the crowd to do a Mexican Wave.

A couple of songs in to the Foo Fighters the crowd got crazy, and the relatively old lady to my left had decided to put ALL of her belongings (jacket, the lot) on the floor before the Foo's started so it was so nice and..safe.. trying to keep my footing with a jacket wrapped round my ankles. She left the area, we followed, and the people in front followed us, but the worst bit is, from what I can see on YouTube, the crowed stopped pushing so manically after that song! I could have stayed in my space! But to be fair, although I ended up further back from the stage, I had a better view once I'd moved and stood with the 'outskirt oldies'.

After the show we walked 'half way' home.. to McDonalds, the queue was long but we got served quick, a lot quicker than we did when there was four people in front of us last year, and I even had a special order (which usually gets messed up at least once - the record is twice in one order) so they've definitely turned that chain around.

After we got something to eat we walked back to the house and Jess went home, it was about 12:30 when we got back to the house.

Here is my fiancé's review of the show:

The Strypes

the Strypes are a young band from Ireland I think. The Strypes came on to the stage and tore through their set, a well practiced, tight bluesy rock band which reminded me of The Hives in a way, The Kinks in another and there were shades of a few different indie bands from the past 20 years in there.

Kaiser Chiefs

The Kaiser Chiefs came up next and played a set of crowd pleasing numbers, it seemed a little 'going through the motions' in a way. Their singer played on the "warming up for the Foo Fighters" thing to the point of it being cringeworthy by the end of their set but the crowd appeared to enjoy it.

Foo Fighters

Finally, the Foo Fighters arrived on stage and played a 30 song set of old classics, new songs and a mini-set of old rock classics. One thing you notice about the Foo Fighters is they clearly love playing and Dave Grohl appeared to be having the time of his life, especially being genuinely surprised at the end of "Best of You" when the crowd kept chanting the woah's in the outro, making Taylor Hawkings stop the drum outro and seemingly savouring the moment.
