Rome - Day One

Ok, so I really didn't take any notes on this trip and since i'm writing them a week to the day that we got back i'm guessing these posts will be pretty short.

But anyway, we were up around 4am to head to the airport, that all went well until we drove into Newcastle and found some major road closes!
Eventually we asked a taxi driver, he said he was heading to the airport too and just to follow him, we still got there with enough time so that was ok!

Check in queue was pretty short but the security line was the longest i've seen it in a long time! We got through pretty quickly and were soon off to Burger King to grab some pre-flight food before heading to WHSmith for drinks to take with us.

The flight went pretty quickly, I think we'd both fallen asleep before take off to be honest! Jet2 don't let you keep electronics on for take off or landing so I couldn't take a time lapse. Still pretty bummed about it.

Once we landed we had about a 20-30minute wait for our transfer but were soon on our way to our hotel - San Remo.

Now, this wasn't the hotel we chose, we got an email from Jet2 a couple months after booking saying they weren't working with our original hotel anymore and we were being moved to the San Remo. The reviews on trip advisor were really bad but it was still in the same location so we just went with it.

There was a huge group of Americans checking in before us, that took some time and as there was only one lift - which only holds 3 people - we ended up having to walk up 6 flights of stairs with our cases to get to our room because by the time we checked in all of the Americans were still at the lift waiting (it was a really slow, scary lift, it rattles and bumps!).

In our room we find our first few problems, little ones, like you cant lock the front door or the bath room door from the inside, the bathroom window didn't have a curtain or fogged glass, the room curtains had holes and despite asking in advance for an empty fridge and a room that looked out to the street we were met with a view of walls and a fridge full of mini bar items.

They let us move the mini bar stuff onto the table and use the fridge for my medication at least though.

So a quick unpacking and we rushed out for food and to have a little look around before heading back to unpack properly and get an early night - my fiancé hadn't actually gone to sleep the night before.
