Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Review

Last night my fiancé and I headed out to see Guardian's of the Galaxy Vol. 2, here is his review

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

So now we all know what to expect from GotG, can the second movie live up to the hype? I'm not so sure. It's a good movie but not in the same vein as the first, this feels more like a "road trip" movie where everybody is out trying to find out "who they are" …one thing that struck me was that for a vast majority of the movie we had no obvious primary antagonist, any battle scenes were comical and I couldn't really see where the movie was going… then there was the twist… suddenly we go from a series of family reunions to a final battle against a seemingly insurmountable enemy, culminating in a movie-saving redemption for a much-misunderstood character.

Baby Groot was awesome and provided the right counter-emotions at the right times, from him dancing, messing everything up, being confused and generally reminding you of an angry younger sibling at times, this movie would have fell flat on its face without Groot.

Drax seems to be a totally different character in this movie, there primarily for wise-cracks and the "taking everything literally" starts to wear thin after a while, I wouldn't like to see a Drax solo movie as much as an Avengers solo movie, for instance, although Rocket and Baby Groot could probably have a cartoon series on Disney XD or whatever they have for that stuff now. I'd imagine it'd be like the Timon and Pumbaa spin-off cartoons from the Lion King. Someone needs to make this happen.

My verdict is that it's a 3/5, definitely worth seeing but not worth seeing twice. Maybe twice but not more than that.

In the credits, keep an eye out for the "I AM GROOT" switchouts and the FIVE after credit scenes (I think it was five. Might have been four.) including a second Stan Lee Cameo. His cameo in the actual movie is pretty important too, from a continuity side of things.
