Captain America: Civil War Review

Captain America: Civil War

By now we all know enough about The Avengers to not require an introduction to every character in a movie, here, we start with The Avengers (minus Iron Man and Hawkeye) fighting bad guys and winning, but Scarlet Witch causes civilian casualties when she moves a bad guy who detonated a suicide vest while holding on to Captain America.

This, along with numerous other incidents with civilian casualties cause the United Nations to request all enhanced persons be registered otherwise they’ll be treated as vigilantes. Half The Avengers agree, half disagree, based on the principle of control. While this is happening, somebody pretending to be The Winter Soldier sets off a bomb and kills the Black Panther’s father, and the side of The Avengers led by Iron Man believe that Bucky was responsible for the killing, while the side led by Captain America (Bucky’s old friend) don’t want to kill him. Each side pulls in assistance from an outsider, Iron Man giving Peter Parker funding for a proper suit, Captain America recruiting Ant-Man.

There is a pretty great fight scene where all of The Avengers are basically beating the hell out of each other which culminates in Captain America and The Winter Soldier escaping to fight the bad guy and a distracted Vision accidentally paralysing War Machine and all of the remaining rebel Avengers being locked in a floating prison, including Hawk Eye.

Iron Man then realises that Bucky was innocent and goes to help Captain America and The Winter Soldier, although when they get there they find that it’s all been a setup in order to make them fight to the death, with a revelation about The Winter Soldier and Captain America’s knowledge of the incident making Iron Man lose it and fight both of them, ending in Bucky losing his mechanical arm, Iron Man having his Arc Reactor destroyed and Captain America leaving his shield with Tony Stark.

The Black Panther then catches up with the bad guy and stops him killing himself, having came to a realisation that seeking vengeance is not the only option, he then hands him over to the people who held Bucky and helps Bucky by putting him to sleep until the technology exists to remove the conditioning in his brain.

This was a great movie and it is going to be really exciting to see how it all pans out over the next few years, with Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, and Black Panther all leading towards a massive feature in Avengers: Infinity War. It’s going to be interesting to see how the events and conflicts in Civil War are going to be resolved (if at all) and what effect they have on The Avengers in the future.

As always, written by my fiancé :)
