January Home Updates

As you may already know we've decided to cut back on holidays this year - after taking a whopping seven last year! We decided to cut back because it really is about time we fix up our house, we've had it for a few years now and we've really done nothing with it other than replace the boiler, a few radiators and pipes, two sides of the back garden fence and had a section of the grass rotovated and regrown.

So this month we wrote up a list of what we need and want to do with the house, we won't be able to do all of it this year I don't think, because for example getting an entirely new kitchen is a pretty big job! We want to get the bathroom redone too, it's only recently been finished but its not what we wanted and it's horrible.
Who thought a black and white bathroom, with black bathroom door and brown wood ceiling and toilet seat would look nice, I have no idea.

We've chosen our new light fittings, well, the bottom & top of the stairs we're not entirely sure what we want still, its so difficult picking a new fitting out for such small areas. The new ones we want for our kitchen and - I call it the "chinchilla room" because thats where the chinchillas used to live, its basically a house extension just on the end of the kitchen - are so nice though, they're like an industrial pipe style fitting, it'll work great in our kitchen because we have a brick wall divide between the kitchen and extension.

We're starting to pick up our electrical bits now, like our light fittings and new plug sockets because we're hoping to get all or most of the electrical bits done together. We do want a couple of extra sockets and another one wiring in if we can though - theres currently a socket in the bedroom that doesn't work at all, it just doesn't seem to be attached to the circuit. We also want to get a couple of sensor security lights linked up.

Once we've got the electrics all sorted we don't know what we're going to do next, we'll need to get some people out to give us some quotes and guidance. We think we need a couple of new floorboards, we need the entire house replastering, and all new blinds for every room. We also possibly want to remove the downstairs chimney breast and have the tv put into the wall, but up in the bedroom i'm hoping to be able to build a small cupboard into the chimney breast, just something big enough for hair straighteners, deodorants, that sort of thing, but my fiancé thinks it's connected to our neighbours chimney so it all depends on whether or not they have a fire still and that sort of thing really, we'll need to have it looked at.

What we've done this month:

- New loft hatch
- New loft ladder
- Loft boarded out
- Light installed in loft
- Picked out light fittings
- Wrote up the to do list
