Mother's Day

Although I'm not actually at home for Mother's Day - i'm currently in London with my fiancé as I just picked a random weekend, not too close to Comic Con, without checking the date of Mother's Day first! I'm actually pretty gutted that I finally got a Mother's Day off and I won't be home! I've been trying to get one of since I started work and i've never been able to get it until now - I thought I would share what I got for my Mam and Nan.

As the oldest child its up to me to pick out and get the presents off me and my brother, and this year I really struggled with it as my Mam's birthday isn't too long before Christmas i've ran out of good options on the market after getting her birthday and Christmas presents so she got more perfume, as if the perfume she got for her birthday (same one) and Christmas (Jean-Paul Gaultier) have run out by now (I doubt it!).

We got my Mam the following:

A Kindle voucher.

I bought my Mam a Kindle the first Christmas after I graduated, she was really happy with it and she uses it all the time. We get her a Kindle voucher for every occasion as she uses it so much. I probably could have got her an iTunes voucher this time round as we just got her an iPad mini for Christmas, but I don't think she's even set it up yet and an iTunes voucher would have got her a few new apps that she doesn't already have on her iPhone.

The Wizard of Oz book.

The Wizard of Oz is my Mam's absolute favourite film ever, and every Christmas she tries to get me and my little brother to watch it but we never do, we did get her the DVD one Christmas so she could watch it whenever she wants but she rarely has that much free time and to this day I think it's still in the cellophane, sadly. With the book this way she'll be able to read it when she has time and go back and pick up from where she left off the next time she gets some free time. My Mam loves reading so she'll probably be reading this nightly. We opted for the paper book as my Mam, despite loving her Kindle, has always preferred paper books, and one day she'd love to have a personal library, that was her plans for our living room once my brother and I move out, and she would often tell us about the previous occupier having done just that with the living room before we moved in.

Jelly Belly car air freshener.

We tend to have Jelly Belly air fresheners in my car as my Mam loves the Very Cherry Jelly Belly beans so we started getting the very cherry air freshener, but we've started switching to different Jelly Belly scents, and every now and again we get the Parma Violets air freshener - its a really nice air freshener!

Jimmy Choo perfume.

We already got her this for her birthday, and the previous Christmas. We've bought it for her four times since Christmas 2012, and i'm not sure how much of it she has left, I should probably check before we buy her it for her next birthday or Christmas! We always buy her Jimmy Choo perfume from Amazon as its a little bit cheaper and I use the website enough to know its reliable and that their customer service is great if anything did go wrong.

Foam mushroom sweets.

These foam mushroom sweets are her favourite retro sweets, a couple of years ago they disappeared from the cinema Pick N Mix and we couldn't find them anywhere in Sunderland or Newcastle city centres, no matter how hard we looked! In the end I got these ones from a seller on Amazon, the price is high for what they are, they cost £5.94 for 500 grams, but at least it had 'free' delivery.

Lindor chocolates.

These are her absolute favourite chocolates, at the moment at least. We've given her them for every occasion, and just randomly for the past few years. My brother even loves them now, but personally they're just not my thing, i'm not much of a chocolate fan.

Now, my Nan is really difficult to buy for, we've been asking what she wants for Mother's Day and her birthday but she just wants money because she doesn't particularly want anything right now so she'll put the money towards plants in the spring.

What we got my Nan:

A Kindle voucher.

For Christmas we got my Nan a Kindle Fire as she was enjoying using the one I bought my Mam. She likes to read in bed when she can't sleep, so the voucher we got her should get her enough books to last for a while, although we'll probably get her a voucher for her birthday next month too!

A collectable figurine.

I got my Nan one of these when I graduated to say thanks to her and my Grandad for always being there for me, giving me money, lifts to the metro station so I could get to college, and the occasional fast food when I got picked up around lunch time. I've not seen the one I got her for a while so right now i'm just hoping its not the same one as this model says 'Thank You" on the box! There was a Grandmother model but I didn't like it and as it was just a Grandmother and a granddaughter it felt like it would just be off me and not my little brother.

A personalised Thorntons heart.

At this point I was just running out of ideas of what to get her, but I know she likes Thorntons chocolates and she really liked the personalised Thorntons gifts we got her last year so I thought she would like this too. I had to go to two different Thornton's to get this heart as the first store only had the gift tags and speech bubbles left, I then found out that Poundland had them on offer for half price (but you had to spend so much in store so get it, and i'm not sure what the situation was with personalisation). I like how Thornton's can personalise their items and how quick it is as its ideal for a last minute gift, but what I don't like about it is that the icing takes an hour to dry (not their fault, obviously) so you have to carry it flat around a busy shopping centre/transport for the next hour, I would prefer it if they could give you the option to pick it up later once it's dry.
