Movie Review: Deadpool 2

Deadpool 2
[some spoilers]
Ryan Reynolds returns as Wade “Deadpool” Wilson, in the gore-filled sequel to Deadpool. A recurring theme in this movie is that Deadpool just wants to die as he has nothing left to live for. Everybody he loves is dead. And he ends up forming a “gender-neutral” team called “X-Force” to save a kid with anger issues and a mutation that enables him to create fire. Cable has travelled back in time to kill the kid because the kid killed his wife and child. Deadpool wants to try to prevent the kid from turning on to that path. Cable and Deadpool’s stories are pretty similar except Deadpool doesn’t have a child… The after-credits scene is a lot of fun, revisiting a few Deadpool “mistakes” and also a couple of Ryan Reynolds’ too. Of course, the “Merc with a Mouth” is full of pop-culture references, meta-references and fourth-wall destruction, along with a pretty hilarious scene which came about when Deadpool gets torn in half. Guns, violence, swords, blood, twists, turns, and more make this a worthy sequel to the first movie. It’s not as good, the shock value is gone from it but it still has the ability to make you laugh one minute and reach for the sick-bag the next. The sound effects when he pops his neck back around were a particular favourite of mine, I’m just glad I’d finished my popcorn by that point!
