The Jungle Book Film Review

The Jungle Book

We’ve all seen the story of the Jungle Book from when we were young(er) and this live-action remake is a really good interpretation of the original books and the original movie, it also implements a few different ideas into the story which means that although you know how the story goes, you don’t know exactly how it’s going to get there.

The whole movie is based around Shere Kahn’s attempt to kill Mowgli, a ‘man-cub’ who has been taken in by a pack of wolves. Kahn is more villainous than in the animated movie, it being revealed that he killed Mowgli’s father, who in defending himself blinded Shere Kahn in one eye.

Mowgli is chastised by the black panther Bagheera for using his tricks to make his life easier and compensate for his shortcomings as a wolf.

Of course, Mowgli meets Kaa, Baloo and King Louie along the way and befriends a herd of elephants which become a valuable ally at the end of the movie.

The whole movie looks amazing, it’s really immersive and the CGI is done really well, although the ending is a bit too “happy ending” for me and not like the original or the books at all, however, saying this, the lines between good and bad characters aren’t as blurred in this movie as the original which I am in two minds about, in the one hand it’s good but in another, you kind-of get the sense that Shere Kahn is actually working for the good of the jungle in trying to kill a forbidden creature from entering the jungle.

Although not a musical, there are a couple of songs which make it in to the movie in which help bring another nostalgic dimension to the movie.
